How to Care for Your Skin after Laser Hair Removal

To be clear, laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser in order to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a beam passes through the skin to individual hair follicles; it is the intense heat of the laser which damages the hair follicles, which prevents future hair growth.

In the last two decades, laser removal has become quite popular and is considered by many as a permanent hair removal technique. However, because laser hair removal can leave your skin feeling pained and irritated, there are certain steps you can take that will help you care for your skin, such as using a laser calming cream. This cream should be applied after each treatment because it will calm down and relax your skin after you skin has been treated with a laser.

The calming cream will reduce redness, side-effects and discomfort. In addition, the process of laser removal is vulnerable to direct sunlight and prone to darkening; however by applying sunscreen you can lessen that vulnerability. Other tips are avoiding hot showers, steam rooms and saunas for at least two days after laser treatment as well as not having this procedure if you are on any antibiotic medications.

Most importantly, apply an ice-pack on skin that has been treated; this will reduce any pain you may experience from this procedure. Note: when using sunscreen, always use sunscreen with SPF 15, 20, 50 and above.

Another way to treat your skin after laser hair removal is to avoid waxing, tweezing, or electrolysis. Also, before your hair laser removal, try not to tan your skin. The darker you skin, the more it will absorb the laser beam’s energy, making hair removal more difficult. In addition, make sure to space out your laser hair removal sessions. Most dermatologists suggest spacing out your sessions anywhere from every 4 to 12 weeks. Keep in mind that if you plan on getting your underarms done, plan an early morning treatment and avoid putting on deodorant and perfume before the procedure. Another point to keep in mind is if you have facial hair removal done, stay away from topical medication, such as anti-acne creams.

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser in order to remove unwanted hair. Benefits include removing unwanted hair from your face, arms, legs, underarm, bikini line, and other areas. What makes laser process so popular is the ability it has to selectively target certain areas where unwanted hair has grown and leave the surrounding skin areas undamaged.
