Say Goodbye to Stubborn Fat With Tumescent Liposuction

You may not have heard about tumescent liposuction, but it’s been around for a few decades. Invented by Jeffrey Klein, MD in 1985, tumescent liposuction offers a safer, more convenient alternative to traditional liposuction.

At HK Dermatology in San Juan Capistrano, California, Dr. Jeffrey Klein, Dr. Norma Kassardjian, and their team are here to bring you the most effective methods for cosmetic enhancement on the market. That’s why we’ve compiled this helpful guide to tumescent liposuction so that you can decide if it’s the right treatment option for you.

How does tumescent liposuction work?

With tumescent liposuction, we first inject the area with a solution of lidocaine and epinephrine. The solution works to both numb and vasoconstrict the part of your body we’ll be working on. This makes it easier to sculpt and contour the area, with significantly less blood loss than traditional liposuction.

We then make a small incision and insert a cannula, a thin tube connected to a vacuum-type machine, which sucks out your fat and excess tissue.

This procedure can be performed on your face, chin, and neck area. You can also have it done on areas of your body, including your abdomen, buttocks, arms, breasts, and your knees, calves, and even ankles.

The benefits of tumescent liposuction

Because tumescent liposuction is performed with a local anesthetic, you don’t need to be put to sleep with general anesthesia. This makes the procedure safer and helps you avoid complications like nausea, disorientation, and even more serious risks like a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism.

This also means your recovery time will be faster, and you won’t need to stay overnight in the hospital as you would with traditional liposuction. You’ll have significantly less bleeding, bruising, pain, and swelling, as well. Most patients return to a desk job within about 2 days after surgery.

Because tumescent liposuction expands and firms the fat in the targeted area, we’re better able to sculpt and contour your body. This reduces the risk of imperfections and irregularities in your resulting figure, so it’s a more accurate and precise body sculpting method.

The procedure is also incredibly safe because it doesn’t require narcotics to aid recovery. There have been no reported deaths associated with the procedure, and the risk of injury is incredibly low.

Remove fat effectively with tumescent liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a minimally invasive and incredibly effective procedure. It works even better than traditional liposuction to remove some of the most stubborn pockets of fat from areas that are usually difficult to target.
