What is miraDry®?

miraDry®, a state-of-the-art nonsurgical treatment, reduces both perspiration and odor from your underarms in just one to two sessions. Dr. Jeffrey A. Klein’s team at HK Dermatology offers miraDry conveniently in our San Juan Capistrano, California office.

Try miraDry, a healthier alternative

According to the American Cancer Society, some researchers caution that aluminum-based elements in antiperspirants could contribute to breast cancer, and aluminum absorbed by the skin could possibly alter estrogen receptors in breast cells. However, no causal link has been established. Still, you can protect yourself by using deodorants without aluminum or by undergoing a brief miraDry treatment to eliminate them entirely.

Stop sweating in a flash

Our bodies contain millions of sweat glands. Only 2%, however, exist under our arms. Reducing only their activity leaves plenty of room to sweat, which helps regulate body temperature and release toxins.

While you relax comfortably in a reclining position, Dr. Klein and our knowledgeable team administer the patented miraDry heat treatment to safely stop underarm sweat and odor. We simply:

  1. Numb the area to be treated with lidocaine
  2. Place the miraDry handpiece beneath each underarm
  3. Deliver controlled electromagnetic energy to the area

In less than an hour, Dr. Klein eliminates or decreases the number of sweat glands via thermolysis (heat). You immediately notice a difference.

Relieve hyperhidrosis

As many as 2% of people across the globe experience hyperhidrosis, or excessing sweating, due to overactive nerves. Those suffering from this aggravating and embarrassing condition may need an additional treatment. Sweat is reportedly reduced by as much as 82%, with 89% less odor on average, after only two miraDry treatments.

Reduce sweat naturally

It may sound counterintuitive, but the more hydrated you remain, the less you sweat. In addition to your miraDry treatment and drinking lots of fluids, Dr. Klein recommends additional tips to reduce perspiration naturally.

Watch what you eat

Avoid sweat-inducing foods, such as garlic, onions, and high-fat foods. Add more sweat-reducing foods to your diet, including:

Stop smoking

Dr. Klein also recommends you cease smoking, which causes, among other health-related issues, a rise in body temperature and sweating.

Limit alcohol

Watch your alcohol intake, as well. Alcohol expands your blood vessels and increases your heart rate, triggering perspiration.

Take the no-sweat express
