5 Popular Uses for Cosmetic Fillers

Crow’s feet and wrinkles are nothing to laugh about. Fortunately,  Dr. Jeffrey A. Klein and our knowledgeable skincare experts at HK Dermatology in San Juan Capistrano, California offer cosmetic fillers to smooth lines and wrinkles, giving you a fresher, more youthful appearance.

5 great reasons to smile

Our dermatological wizards keep you smiling as they remove years of wear-and-tear from your skin. HK Dermatology stocks a wide range of fillers to choose from, so we always have just what your skin needs! Utilizing cosmetic, aka dermal, fillers such as Sculptra Aesthetic, Restylane®Lyft, JUVÉDERM XC®, RHA® or Versa® our team discreetly:

1. Eliminates marionette lines and nasolabial folds

Over the years, small lines appear around the corners of your mouth, causing marionette lines to form. We use dermal fillers to smooth out those areas, as well as the lines stretching from your nose to your lips.

2. Chisels your jawline

There’s nothing attractive about a weak jawline. Improve facial harmony by strengthening the jawline and chin. Jawline enhancement with dermal fillers can define and correct a weak jawline, which may reduce the appearance of a double chin. The best fillers for the jawline mimic bone and provide greater lift. Best choices include Voluma®, Restylane® Lyft, or Radiesse®. If you are looking to enhance a jawline, two syringes would be best. If you are looking to build your jawline, you will need closer to four or five syringes of filler, depending on what kind of result you want to achieve.

3. Plumps up your cheeks

As we age, our cheeks lose volume, making us look older than our years. It causes:

We inject dermal fillers to restore volume and erase years.

4. Creates fuller lips

We use lip fillers with hyaluronic acid, mimicking the natural sugar-based, moisture-containing substance found in your skin to fashion more voluptuous lips.

5. Alleviates acne scars

There are certain signs of youth we’d rather do without. Our expert team uses dermal fillers to quickly smooth out acne scars, transforming those visible reminders of our awkward teenage years into distant memories.

Types of dermal fillers

We employ a variety of dermal fillers, depending upon skin type, targeted area, and desired outcome. These include:

  1. Restylane Lift, a clear hyaluronic acid-based, non-animal-derived gel: also contains lidocaine to alleviate any discomfort
  2. Belotero Balance® smooths wrinkles and lines surrounding your mouth and lips
  3. JUVÉDERM uses hyaluronic acid to enhance volume, moisture, and suppleness to the tissues beneath your skin to create a more youthful glow

Our team also employs other hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as the RHA® family of fillers by Revance, Voluma®, Volbella®, Vollure®, and Versa®, depending upon your specific needs.

Before, during, and after your procedure

We ask that patients avoid scheduling their appointment for fillers if they have a sinus infection, and for at least 4 weeks before or after dental work, including dental cleanings. To reduce the risk of bruising, it is best to avoid medications and supplements that thin the blood, as well as red wine, for 5 days before the filler. Patients arrive 30 minutes before their appointment for topical numbing cream. Additionally, our fillers include a small amount of lidocaine to reduce any discomfort. We remove the numbing cream and cleanse the area prior to treatment.

It only takes around 15 minutes to an hour for your prep and procedure, which involves tiny, targeted injections beneath the skin. Results should be evident immediately. You may also notice swelling, redness, or bruising for a day or so. Avoid strenuous activity and sun exposure over the next 24 hours. Other than that, you’re good to go. For patients that experience darker bruising, we minimize the duration of the bruise by performing a quick laser treatment for the first day or two following the filler. The results generally last from six months to two years, depending upon your individual situation.
