Can Sunscreen Help Prevent Aging?
Aging is not something people like to talk about, and when it comes to the skin signs of aging, people tend to push the thought away until it’s too late. There are many ways you can prevent aging on your skin now, and you don’t have to worry about these prevention methods taking up too much time. In fact, the easiest way to help prevent aging is by wearing sunscreen. It’s as simple as that.
Know Your Skin Type
Before you begin applying sunscreen daily, you should consider your skin type. Though sun lotion is intended for direct skin application, some people might have a sensitivity to certain lotions with SPF. You should consider your skin and how well it handles these lotions before purchasing. Do you have fair skin? Do you burn easily? Do you have any skin sensitivities that certain SPF lotions might irritate? Ensure that you apply and reapply your sun lotion as necessary is important to your skin health. These are all great things to consider before purchasing any sun lotion, but it’s not the only thing to consider.
Get the Right SPF
The next thing to consider when attempting to prevent any signs of aging on your skin by using sun lotion is finding the right SPF. There are many different SPF numbers. You know, those numbers that are on the tube of different lotions that say SPF 15, SPF 45, or even SPF 85? These numbers are the SPF numbers which tell you how well they work to block the Ultraviolet rays that come from the sun. These rays are what cause the visible signs of aging, which is why it is so vastly important to find the right SPF for your skin type. Using an SPF of 15 or higher will greatly reduce a number of visible aging signs on your skin.
Wear Protective Clothing
One other way to help prevent aging is by wearing protective clothing. Now, this doesn’t mean you must wear sweat pants and long sleeves to the beach. Instead, it means wearing things like big sunglasses to protect the skin around your eyes or wearing a large brimmed hat to cover your ears and neck and prevent any sun damage to these sensitive areas of the face. It is important to keep your sun lotion on as well as wearing protective clothing. If you have experienced any sun damage to your skin before, it might be wise to keep the area covered by a shirt or other form of protection.
Aging is not fun, especially when you start to see early signs of aging on your skin. Since your skin gives away your age faster than any other part of your body, you should work to take care of your skin and prevent aging signs. By wearing sunscreen with the correct SPF and wearing protective clothing, you can actively work to protect the largest organ of your body, the skin.
