How Illnesses Can Affect The Skin

Whether you have a minor cold or the flu, you may notice that certain illnesses tend to affect your skin in adverse ways. While you should always schedule an appointment with a doctor to learn exactly what is going on and how to resolve the issue, you can start to take into account some of the problems that might arise.

Goosebumps
When you’ve had a chill or you’ve felt afraid, you have likely seen goosebumps arise on your arms. Some ailments, such as the flu, can cause you to have the chills, so you might see the appearance of goosebumps on parts of your body.

Redness
At other points during your illness, you may experience fevers. When some people are hot, their skin gets red. Some makeup products, particularly ones with green undertones, can help to cover this redness. You may also have an underlying condition, such as dilated blood vessels, that is causing more redness than usual.

Chapped Nose and Lips
If you are constantly blowing your nose and wiping your face, you may notice that the skin around your nose and lips becomes chapped. You may be tempted to use ointment to take care of the issue, but proceed with caution. If you are using one that is handled the same way as a lipstick, you are spreading germs back onto a sensitive area of your skin every time that you use it.

Bed Sores
When you are quite ill, you likely stay in bed or on the couch as much as possible. This lack of movement could potentially result in bed sores. Speak to your doctor about how much movement you can healthily have each day. Getting up for a little while or changing your position can help you to avoid bed sores.

Allergic Reactions
The cause of your illness might be an allergic reaction, and you may be able to identify that by redness or hives on your skin. It is also possible that you are allergic to the medication that you were prescribed for your illness. Some allergic reactions can be severe, so you should talk to your doctor about this issue and keep a list of medications to which you are allergic.
